By All The Gods!

Another entrant! It's Howard Campbell, aka HoCo! That brings our total up to roughly two quillion, give or take.

This is going to be one interesting looking place of business for the next month. Just saying.

Who Are These People?

For those of you who don't know these folks intimately, you may be wondering just who the heck they all are. It's a legitimate question to have in your mind. We are the employees of a Major Visual Effects Company located in the Golden State of California. Now, that may not narrow things down in your mind very much, but look at it this way: you can stop looking through the phone books of Kansas to try to figure things out. And forget about Brazil, too. We ain't down there, neither!

Forty-nine states, a few territories, and a vast majority of the world wiped from possibility. See how easy I'm making this for you? I'm just trying to tip it in your favor...

This Is Getting Out Of Hand...No, Really

I'm not sure how we can pull off a Day One Check-In during the alloted time, because we just got three new entrants!!

Joe Engelke
Matt Jacobs
Sanjay Das

Just to put things into perspective as regards to how high up the food chain this goes, Sanjay Das is our CTO. Anyone with three initials for a job title is in rarified air. That is a bold management style, folks. That's some ballsy admin!

Welcome aboard to all the new kids. This thing is going to be a hoot!

Holy Fucking Cats!

Late, late, late, late entry, but oh, so welcome. Ladies and gentlemen:
Steve Reding!

For those of you who don't know Steve Reding, let me just describe him a little. He's like Santa Claus (non-Tim Allen version) and your funny great uncle all rolled into one. Regardless of which style he gets, he's going to look like Papa Smurf. I swear, if he comes in for Check-In sporting blue skin and a red hat, I'm handing over the trophy right then and there.

This is nearly the best news I've gotten all year. A close second to finding out that they busted the syndicate that stole my kidneys, a finger, three toes, my Isles of Langerhans, and my wallet.

Maximum Check-In Sideburn Length

Have I mentioned that Wednesday is Check-In Day? Have I mentioned it a thrillion times? Good. This is a thing I like to call Covering My Ass, or Shifting The Responsibility To You. If you come in on Wednesday unprepared for your Check-In, who's fault is it now? That's right! It's yours! Fantastic.

It's not enough to just shave your face clean for your first Check-In. No. You also need to trim your sideburns to regulation length. What is the allowed length? Check the graphic below for a visual representation.

You know that little tab in your ear area that looks like it's more attached to the head than the ear? The one that faces backwards and kind of covers up your ear canal a little? Yeah, that one. I'm not sure what else it's supposed to do on Earth, but it's chief function is to guide you to your Maximum Check-In Sideburn Length. Your sideburns should not be longer than halfway down the little tab, which is the area indicated by the line on the monkey. Don't touch the monkey!! For the love of Pete, just look.

Wednesday is the Day One Mantastic 2008 Photographic Check-In And Style Choosing Day! Come in clean shaven with your sideburns shortened appropriately. Don't chimp it all up! The Funky Presidents wouldn't.

Two Late Entries!

Please welcome Patrick Danaher and Andrew Gardner!

It's an embarrassment of suckers!

More Notes!

Seems like I keep forgetting to mention something, so here's my attempt to start remembering.

1. Every Wednesday is a photo Check-In.
2. You do not need to carve your style or keep it neat every day, but you must have it neatly groomed for every Check-In. Which happens each Wednesday, if you happened to skip right past Item #1 here.
3. You need not carve your style until the second photo Check-In. That means that you can just grow for an entire week before anyone sees what you've got to offer. It's like a week of Free Parking. After that it's three weeks of explaining to friends, family, and strangers. Yippee!
4. Thought I'd more to say. Seems not. We resume our regularly scheduled forgettings.

Let's Break It Down

With the current slate of candidates, here's how things shake out:

44 Total Participants

20 Mantastic 2006 Participants

22 Mantastic Rookies

2 Mantastic 2006 participants who shaved early and didn't reach the finish line the first time around. Click here and here to see who is in dire need of redemption.

4 Mantastic 2006 Category Winners

That's a pretty interesting spread. What does it all mean, though?? As Mr. Natural himself often said, "Don't mean shee-it."

Who's Are The Candidates?

We've got a huge crop of hair farmers participating this year. I'd like to see us get through this many photos in a half-hour check-in. Ha!

Welcome aboard, gents.

What To Expect On Day One

First off, let me state, for the record, that Day One is January 16th. Pow.

On Day One, we get things rolling. Faces are shaved clean, styles are assigned, and photos are taken. Here's how it will go down:

1. Wake up Wednesday morning, all full of P & V.
2. Go through your usual morning ritual, but add "Shave entire face clean" in there somewhere. No soul patches. No sideburns past the regulation length (more on that shortly). You don't have to shave "against the grain," but that doesn't give you license to do a crappy job, either. Do it right.
3. Show up to work.
4. At 4:30, we'll meet at a designated location. We're still working that out, but it'll be easy to get to. I know how easily you get distracted and lost.
5. When it's your turn, you'll step up to the table, take the single, six-sided die in hand, and roll. Each number on the die will correspond to a hair style. This will be the style you grow for the next four weeks, unless...
6. You pay a $5 Chicken Fee for the right to roll again. You can chicken out as many times as you like until you get something you can live with or you run out of cash. No I.O.U.s. No checks. Cash on the barrelhead, chumps.
7. After determining your style, saunter confidently over to the photo area, where your first Check-In photo will be taken.
8. Every week at the same time, a new Check-In photo will be taken. There will be more information on this in later posts.

Any questions?
